Brompton goes to Yarra Valley Trail Stage 1A

Last Sunday I enjoyed a ride on the newly opened Yarra Valley Trail.

[ride info]
Lilydale Station - Yering Station (return trip)
Distance: 17.32 km
Time: 56:28
Average speed: 18.4 kph
Road condition: gravel
Equipment: M6L-X raw

I started from Lilydale Station in the morning before strong south wind blew.

Near Coldstream Station. A half way of the stage 1A.

A lot of riders and runners were enjoying the trail early in the morning.

The current trail, Stage 1A,  ends in 7.5 km at Yering Station.

The trail is expected to continue toward Yarra Glen Station. According to Yarra Ranges Shire Council, Stage 1b, 4.5 km from Yering to Yarra Glen Station, requires more approvals and is more complex to construct, including bridge renovations and constructions over creeks and rivers. The work of stage 1b is expected to commence in March 2020 and should be open to the public by the end of 2021.

Though the work might not be so easy, I wish to ride through the way soon. Please share my excitement through the video clip of my return ride to Lilydale Station. It was nice!

Bromptons joined BALLARAT TWEED RIDE 2019

Today May 26, Bromptons joined a Tweed Ride held in the town of Ballarat, Victoria of Australia. Tweed Ride was a part of the Ballarat Heritage Week event.

As you may know, a Tweed Ride is a bike ride where a group of cyclists dress in historic and vintage attire. It is told that the tradition began in London in the 90s with riders dressing in classic British winter attire and riding through the streets of London. Similar events are now held all around the world.

We assembled at the cannons beside Restaurant Piper's on Wendouree Lake.

Despite forecast, it was a glorious autumnal climate with sunshine but suitable temperature for tweed clothes in the morning.

Six Bromptons made the lineup and a Penny Farthing joined.

The ride began at 11:15 am after a short safety briefing.

It was a big ride!

A ride finished at City Hall. They are award winners for best dressed.

Please enjoy the movie. (equipment: Gopro Hero 7 Black)

Brompton Travelers enjoy Melbourne!

Last weekend Brompton travelers enjoyed Melbourne.

Melbourne, the capital of Victoria, is a suitable travel destination for Brompton riders because of its friendliness to every cyclist with a variety of nice bike paths. In addition there are choices of day trips including a visit to Winery Restaurants in Yarra Valley, Penguin Parade at Philip Island, and sightseeing of dramatic coastline and limestone cliffs in the Great Ocean Road.

Upon arrival, I brought them to Beach Trail where sunshine and breeze were poured onto runners and bikers.

Looking over lovely beach line.

Famous Brighton Beach.

Second day, we went to the Great Ocean Road with Bromptons.

We reached the Broken Head. The stormy Southern Ocean and blasting winds gradually eroded the softer limestone, forming sheer cliffs of hundreds miles.

We became witnesses of the famous 12 Apostles, magnificent rock stacks that rise up majestically from the Southern Ocean.

Third day, my guest Brompton travelers went to Yarra Valley to enjoy lovely food and wine.

We returned to CBD after lunch to unfold Bromptons. The last ride in Melbourne was on Capital City Trail.

While it was a busy three-day stay in Melbourne, they were able to visit all of the three major tourist destinations in Melbourne, the Great Ocean Road, Yara Valley, in addition to lovely Brompton rides along beach and river.

Brompton runs Australian Grand Prix

Brompton ran at Albert Park Circuit where Australian Grand Prix was held last week.

I enjoyed Australian Grand Prix last week, overlooking the start line from the Fangio Grandstand.

I supposed that there was still the same F1 course setting today and that it was open to every cyclist for a while. Let's go to Albert Park Circuit to experience an F1 ride with my Brompton S2E.

It was exciting! The following video is for the 2nd LAP. The speed looks like Formula One, using Gopro Hero 7's "TimeWarp" in which HyperSmooth applied to TimeLapse Video.

[Ride Data]
Equipment: S2E
Route: Albert Park Circuit
Distance: 5.2km (x3)
Average Speed: 27.4 km/h (2nd LAP)
Max. Speed: 43.9 km/h (2nd LAP)

Brompton goes to Red Hill Rail Trail

Brompton and I went to the Red Hill Rail Trail.

The Red Hill Rail Trail is only 6.5 km trail in Mornington Peninsula. It runs from Merricks toward Red Hill South where famous restaurants and wineries concentrate.

The line to Red Hill was opened in 1921 as a 16 km branch line from Bittern on the Stony Point line. In those days it primarily carried fruit such as apples, pears and strawberries to be sold in Melbourne. However, the line was unsuccessful in terms of business. As roads in the Peninsula were quickly improved, passenger traffic had slowed and the regular train service reverted to a weekly mixed goods train by 1929. The line was closed in 1953 after only 32 years of operation. The track was dismantled by 1955.

After decades, the section only between former Merricks Station and Red Hill Station was revived as a rail trail. The rest of the former railway land between Bittern and Merricks is now in private ownership but may be restored to public access some day.

[ride data]
Route: Merricks - Red Hill South -Merricks
Distance: 12.7km (return)
Max. difference of elevation:157m
Average % of slope: total 0% ascend 3.6% descend 3.6%
Acquired elevation: 192m

The Red Hill Rail Trail starts at the backyard of Stonier Wines in Merricks.

Brompton goes along vineyards and pastureland toward Red Hill.

On Sunday there are a lot of people, bikes, and dogs on the trail.

The trail is also an equestrian trail. Popular among horse riders.

Brompton runs across railway cutting.

Finally Brompton and I reached Red Hill.

It is a good idea to have a break here.

Brompton completed the Lilydale Warburton Rail Trail 40km

Brompton and I completed all the way of the Lilydale-Warburton Rail Trail between Warburton and Lilydale. The Rail Trail lasts 40 kilometers along the old Warburton railway line from Lilydale.  As usual, I enjoyed one way ride for 40 km as I used bus for another way.

[Ride data]
Equipment: M6L-X
Route: Old Warburton Station (COG Cafe) to Lilydale Station
Distance: 39.1km

Lilydale Warburton Rail Trail is a popular trail near Melbourne with distance of 40 kilo meters between Warburton and Lilydale. The route formerly used as a railway line is now the Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail, a pedestrian, bicycle and equestrian trail. The rail trail is convenient for people because it starts from the end of the metropolitan rail network at Lilydale Station to original Warburton Station via original stations of Mount Evelyn, Wandin, Seville, Woori Yallock, and Yarra Junction. You can enjoy rural landscape throughout the route to the resort town of Warburton nestled in the mountains.

The Warburton line was constructed as a railway branching off from the old Healesville line at the present terminus, Lilydale. The line opened in 1901 and closed in 1965.

Started a ride today from Old Warburton Station after a cup of coffee at COG Cafe.

The village town was covered with moisture and autumn tint this morning.

I found a beautiful rose flower in the village.

Recent cold weather caused a beautiful autumn tint here and there.

A lot of cyclists enjoyed a ride on this beautiful rail trail trail even after morning dizzle.
